OUR HISTORY
McCool’s Flooring started as a small family business in 1967 and grew through hard work, partnerships with top manufacturers, and multiple expansions to become one of the largest independent flooring retailers in the U.S., with three generations actively involved in the company.
The Birth of McCool's Flooring
Founded by Virgil and Carole McCool in 1967, we began as a small carpet installation business. Virgil handled installations, while Carole manned the showroom. They later expanded to a building behind their home in Sharpsville, stocking rolls of carpet for customers.
Expanding
The business grew when their son, Douglas, opened McCool's Remnant Outlet in Kokomo in 1987. While Carole sold roll goods from the shop behind the house, Doug offered a cash-and-carry service. Both stores continued to grow and service the greater Kokomo area including Peru, Russiaville, Greentown and Tipton.
McCool's Carpet Outlet Opens
In 1990, Virgil, Carole and Doug merged operations into McCool's Carpet Outlet with a new 15,000 sqft showroom located on the south side of Kokomo. This facility allowed room for a much larger inventory and expanded product offerings to hardwood, vinyl, and tile. By 1992, McCool's Carpet Outlet was recognized by Inc.Magazine as one of America's fastest growing companies making the prestigious Inc. 500.
2nd McCool's Carpet Outlet Location
IIn 1994, Doug and wife Carmen opened a second location in Westfield/Carmel at Village Park Plaza servicing Noblesville, Sheridan, and Zionsville. This location thrived as well, and after five years, relocated to its current location in the heart of Carmel at 598 W Carmel Dr.
Bigger Business, Bigger Building
As the business grew, McCool's Flooring needed more space. They built a new 30,000 sq ft facility on the adjacent Kokomo property, making it the flagship location where all materials are processed and distributed to the Carmel and Avon locations.
Moving to Avon
In 2007, McCool's grew once again to the west side of Indianapolis, opening the Avon location to service Danville, Brownsburg and Plainfield.
